The process
What happens
We always try to save a tooth first. When one can’t be saved, or a wisdom tooth keeps causing trouble, a careful extraction is the right step, and we talk you through recovery before we start.
- 01
Assessment
An examination and X-ray show the tooth’s position and roots, so we can plan the simplest approach.
- 02
Numbing
Local anaesthetic numbs the area. You’ll feel pressure, but you shouldn’t feel pain.
- 03
Removal
The tooth is gently loosened and removed. Some wisdom teeth need a small cut in the gum and a few stitches.
- 04
Aftercare plan
You go home with written instructions and a number to call if you’re worried.
Questions
Common Questions
Do all wisdom teeth need to come out?
No. Wisdom teeth that have come through properly and are easy to clean can stay. We recommend removal only when they’re causing problems or are likely to.
When can I eat normally again?
Stick to soft, lukewarm food for the first day or two and chew on the other side. Most people are back to normal food within a week.
| Treatment | Typical time |
